Lonna Kelly

I’m a lens-based storyteller. My favorite subjects are loud and enthusiastic street scenes like the Women’s March on NYC, everyday life, and long running collaborative projects based on community participation.

My long running postcard project, inspired by Ray Johnson, is dependent on the input of both friends and random people. Each year, since 2016, I produce a postcard, mark it “modify and mail to Lonna Kelly,” at my address, and distribute it widely both by handing it directly to people or leaving the postcards where people can pick them up. Children and adults participate transforming my photos with their own interpretation.

Additional series and explorations can be found on LonnaKellyStudio.com including the mannikin project Min, Our Mother Ourselves for Art Reborn, and Camera Obscura.

Synergy was a project born of the pandemic. Every month I invited friends, colleagues and collaborators to respond to my suggested topic. This 12 month community based project, the pandemic tree and the collaborate 2022 tree project. An international call for mail art resulted in dozens of responses from around the world.
